Palak Dal Curry

IMG_4575This is a tasty and healthy dal curry with palak added to it. Palak is good for health and you can add it to dal curry or in any chapati gravy. You can have this as a side dish for rice, idli and dosa. The recipe is as follows:

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Palak Leaves/Palak keerai -1/2cup chopped
  • Brinjal -1
  • Potato -1
  • Tomato -2
  • Shallots/Sambar onion/Small onion -1/4cup
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Tamarind water -1/4cup (Soak a small gooseberry size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tsp
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1/2tsp
  • Asafoetida/Hing/Perunkayam -1/4tsp
  • Toor Dal/Thuvaram parupu -1/2cup
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Pressure cook Toor dal, potato and palak with a cup of water in pressure cooker
  • Soak a small gooseberry size tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves and fry
  • Then add small onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomato and mix well
  • Then add cooked dal mixture and boil
  • Add tamarind water and salt and boil well
  • Palak Dal Curry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

 

Pour oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves and fry. Then add small onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color. Then add tomato and mix well
