Kanchipuram Idli

IMG_4445This is a popular South Indian idli seasoned with pepper, cumin seeds, ginger, curry leaves etc. It will be tastier than the normal idli.You can prepare this for breakfast and can enjoy it with chutney or sambar.  The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 10minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Idli Batter -1cup
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham parupu -1tsp
  • Bengal Gram/Channa Dal/Kadalai parupu -1tsp
  • Whole Pepper/Milagu -2tsp
  • Cumin Seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Ginger -1inch finely chopped
  • Green chilli -2
  • Hing/Asafoetida/Perunkayam -1/2tsp
  • Cashew -10 finely broken
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Salt –As required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Take all the ingredients ready

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, green chilli, curry leaves, channa dal, whole pepper, ginger, hing and cashew and mix till it gets fried
  • Then add this to the idli batter and mix well
  • Then pour it in idli moulds or in cups or tumblers and steam it
  • Then allow it to cool and take it and serve with any chutney of your choice
  • Kanchipuram Idli is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
