Drumstick Rasam/Murungakkai Rasam

IMG_4121This is a quick and tasty rasam with drumsticks added to it. It can be taken with hot steamed rice. The preparation is very easy and it will be very tasty too. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 10minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Drumstick/Murungakai -1
  • Toor Dal/Thuvaram Parupu -1/4cup
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -1/2tsp
  • Cumin powder/Seeraka thool -1/2tsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tsp
  • Red chilli -2
  • Tomato -1
  • Coconut Gratings -1tsp
  • Garlic -3
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/4tsp
  • Tamarind –small lemon size
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1/2tsp
  • Coriander leaves –A spring
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop tomato into small pieces
  • Extract tamarind water and keep
  • Crush garlic

Procedure:

  • Add toor dal, drumstick and turmeric powder in a cooker and pressure cook it
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, red chilli, tomato and fry
  • Then add coconut gratings and fry
  • Then add tamarind water and boil till the raw smell goes off
  • Then add crushed garlic, coriander powder, cumin powder, pepper powder and salt and boil
  • Then add dal along with boiled water and drumstick and boil and add curry leaves and coriander leaves and mix well
  • Drumstick Rasam is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
