Brinjal Channa Curry/Kathirikai Kondakadalai Pulikulambu

IMG_3385This is a tasty and easy curry with brinjal and channa added to it. It can be taken with rice, idli and dosa. It is very healthy too and the taste will be very nice. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 35minutes

Soaking Time: 6-8hours

Ingredients:

  • Brinjal/Kathirikai -2
  • Brown Channa/Brown Kondakadalai -1/4cup
  • Small onion/Shallots -1/4cup
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Tomato -2
  • Mustard Seeds/Kadugu -1/2tsp
  • Coconut Gratings -1/4cup
  • Tamarind Water -1/2cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Coriander leaves -1tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/2tsp
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Wash and chop brinjal into small pieces
  • Soak brown channa for 6-8hours and pressure cook it
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add curry leaves and onion and fry till onion turns brown
  • Then add tomato and mix well and fry
  • Then add chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder and mix well
  • Then add coconut gratings and mix well and allow to cool and grind it to a fine paste
  • Pour 1tblsp oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds and after it crackles add grinded paste and fry
  • Then add tamarind water and salt and allow to boil
  • Then add chopped brinjal and boil
  • Add cooked brown channa and boil
  • Then add coriander leaves and switch off the flame
  • Brinjal Channa Curry is now ready!!!
