Mint Rasam/Pudhina Rasam

IMG_3188This is a quick and healthy rasam made with mint leaves. It can be taken with hot steamed rice. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Mint leaves/Pudhina -1/4cup
  • Toor Dal/Thuvaram Parupu -1/4cup
  • Mustard seeds/KAdugu -1/4tsp
  • Cumin Seeds/Seerakam -1/2tsp
  • Garlic -3
  • Tomato -1
  • Tamarind –Lemon Size
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/4tsp
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -2tsp
  • Cumin powder/Seeraka thool -1/4tsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tsp
  • Red chilli -2
  • Salt –As needed
  • Oil -2tsp or as needed

Preparation:

  • Pressure cook Toor Dal
  • Chop Tomato into small pieces
  • Wash and chop mint leaves
  • Soak tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seed, cumin seeds, red chilli, garlic, tomato and fry
  • Then add cooked toor dal and mix well
  • Add tamarind water and salt
  • Then add coriander powder, cumin powder, pepper powder and turmeric powder and mix well and allow to boil
  • Then add chopped mint leaves and boil
  • Mint Rasam is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Pour oil in a pan. Add mustard seed, cumin seeds, red chilli, garlic, tomato and fry. Then add cooked toor dal and mix well. Add tamarind water and salt
