Madurai Chicken Salna

IMG_3306This is a tasty gravy recipe made with chicken. It can be taken as a side dish for parota, poori, chapatti, naan, dosa and idli. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 20minutes

Cooking Time: 40minutes

Ingredients:

  • Chicken -1/2kg
  • Onion -1/2
  • Tomato -1
  • Biriyani leaf -1
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/2tsp
  • Coriander leaves –A spring
  • Salt –As required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

To Dry Fry and Grind:

  • Fennel Seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -1tsp
  • Cumin Seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Pepper/Milagu -1tsp
  • Red chilli -5
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch piece
  • Cardamom/Elakai -3
  • Cashew -5

To Fry and Grind:

  • Big Onion -2
  • Tomatoes -3
  • Green chilli -2
  • Garlic -3
  • Ginger -1inch piece
  • Oil -1tblsp

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Clean chicken pieces well in water
  • Dry fry everything given under “To Dry Fry and Grind” to a fine paste by adding water

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add ginger, garlic and onion and fry till onion gets golden brown in color
  • Then add tomatoes and fry and allow to cool and grind it to a fine paste
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add biriyani leaf, onion and fry
  • Then add tomato and fry well
  • Add the grinded onion tomato mixture and fry
  • Then add chicken pieces and mix well
  • Add water and allow to boil
  • Then add the grinded masala mixture and allow to boil
  • Add coriander leaves and mix well
  • Madurai Chicken Salna is now ready!!!
