Kondakadalai Mochai Pulikulambu/Brown Channa Lima Beans Curry

IMG_3286This is a tasty curry made with lima beans and channa. It can be taken with rice, idli and dosa. The recipe is as follows

Soaking Time: 6-8hours

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Small Onion/Shallots -1/2cup
  • Garlic –7
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Fenugreek/Venthayam -1/2tsp
  • Tomato -1
  • Tamarind water -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -3tsp
  • Turmerci powder/Manjal thool -1/2tsp
  • Brown Channa/Kondakadalai -1/4cup
  • Lima Beans/Mochai -1/4cup
  • Salt –As needed
  • Oil -2tsp or as needed

Preparation:

  • Soak Channa and lima beans for 6-8hours
  • Pressure cook Brown channa and lima beans in cooker for 3whistles in highg flame and in low flame for 10minutes
  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seed, fenugreek, garlic, curry leaves and onion and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomato and mix well till it becomes soft
  • Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well
  • Add tamarind water and boil it well
  • Then add pressure cooked brown channa/kondakadalai and lima beans/mochai and boil
  • Kondakadalai Mochai Pulikulambu is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
