Small Onion Curry/Venkaya Kulambu

IMG_3066This is a tasty and tangy curry made with small onion. It can be taken with rice, dosa and idli. The taste will be nice and tangy and the preparation n is very easy. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Small onion/Shallots/Sambar onion -1/2cup
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham Parupu -1/24sp
  • Fenugreek/Venthayam -1/4tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tblsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/2tsp
  • Sambar powder -1tsp
  • Tamarind water -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal and fenugreek and curry leaves and fry
  • Then add small onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, sambar powder and salt and mix well
  • Then add tamarind water and boil well
  • Small Onion Curry is now ready!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Pour oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal and fenugreek and curry leaves and fry. Then add small onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
