Pearl Millet Rasam/Kambu rasam/Bajra Rasam

IMG_2925This is a healthy rasam made with pearl millets. This goes well with hot steamed rice. Millets are healthy and they can be added in any form in our diet. You can purchase pearl millets from online from the link below:

 


The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Soaking Time :1hour

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Pearl Millet/Kambu/Bajra -2tblsp
  • Tomato -1
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Tamarind juice -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Hing/Asafoetida/Perunkayam -1/4tsp
  • Coriander leaves –A spring
  • Coriander seeds/Malli -2tsp
  • Toor Dal/Thuvaram Parupu -2tsp
  • Pepper/Milagu -1tsp
  • Red chili -1
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1/2tsp
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Wash and soak pearl millet in hot water for 1hour
  • Chop tomato into small pieces
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Wash and soak pearl millet in hot water for 1hour. Then cook it till they get cooked. Then drain the water and grind it to a fine paste
  • Dry fry coriander seeds, toor dal, pepper, red chilli and grind them along with cumin seeds
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add tomato and fry
  • Add curry leaves, hing, tamarind water and allow to boil
  • Add the cooked pearl millets and grinded powder and salt and boil
  • Add coriander leaves and switch off the flame
  • Pearl Millet Rasam is now ready!!!
