Potato Curry/Urulai Kilangu Pulikulambu

IMG_2869This is a tasty and easy curry made with potatoes. It can be taken with rice, idli and dosa. It is very simple to prepare and it’s healthy too. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 35minutes

Ingredients:

  • Potato/Urulai kilangu -1
  • Small onion/Shallots/Sambar onion -1/2cup
  • Tomato -1
  • Coconut -2tsp
  • Cashews -5
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -1/2tsp
  • Garlic -3
  • Sambar powder -2tsp
  • Tamarind water -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Mustad seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham parupu -1/2tsp
  • Fenugreek/Venthayam -1/4tsp
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Hing/Asafoetida/Perunkayam -1/4tsp
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Coconut -2tsp
  • Cashews -5
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -1/2tsp
  • Garlic -3

Grind it to a fine paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and tomato to small pieces
  • Wash and peel the skin from potato and chop it into small pieces
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice
  • Mix sambar powder with tamarind water and keep
  • Grind coconut, cashews, fennel seeds and garlic to a fine paste by adding water

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, fenugreek, hing and onion and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomato and fry till it becomes soft
  • Add potatoes and mix well
  • Then add tamarind water and chilli powder and salt and allow to boil
  • Grind coconut, cashews, fennel seeds and garlic to a fine paste by adding water and add this and boil
  • Potato Curry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
