Pepper Curry/Milagu Kulambu

IMG_2203This is a healthy and easy curry. It can be taken as a side dish with rice, idli and dosa. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 10minutes

Cooking Time: 30minutes

Ingredients:

  • Small onion/Shallots/Sambar onion -1/4cup
  • Tomato -1
  • Curry leaves -2springs
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham Parupu -2tsp
  • Channa Dal/Kadalai Parupu -1tsp
  • Toor Dal/Thuvaram Parupu -1tsp
  • Fenugreek/Venthayam -1/2tsp
  • Pepper/Milagu -1tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tblsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/2tsp
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Tamarind Water -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Asafoetida Powder/Perunjaya thool -1/2tsp
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Take curry leaves in a pan and dry fry it and keep aside
  • Take urad dal, channa dal, toor dal, fenugreek, pepper and dry fry till it becomes red
  • Grind this along with curry leaves and red chilli powder and coriander powder to a fine paste by adding water
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, onion and fry till it becomes golden brown
  • Then add tomato and fry till it becomes soft
  • Add the grinded paste and mix well
  • Add tamarind water along with water and boil
  • Add turmeric powder, asafetida and salt and boil till the curry becomes thick
  • Pepper Curry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
