Ladyfingers Sambar/Vendakkai Sambar

IMG_0892This is a simple and easy sambar recipe made with ladyfingers. It can be taken with rice, idli and dosa. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Ladyfingers -5-8
  • Tomato -2
  • Shallots/Sambar onion/Small onion -1/4cup
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Tamarind water -1cup (Soak a lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Sambar powder -1tblsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tsp
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1/2tsp
  • Asafoetida/Hing/Perunkayam -1/4tsp
  • Toor Dal/Thuvaram parupu -1/2cup
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion,ladyfingers and tomato into small pieces
  • Cook Toor dal
  • Soak a lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Take tamarind water and add ladyfingers to it
  • Add tomato, curry leaves and sambar powder and mix well
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add small onion and fry
  • Add the tamarind water mixture and boil
  • Add the cooked dal and salt and boil
  • Pour 1tsp oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves and add it to the sambar and mix well
  • Ladyfingers Sambar is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Take tamarind water and add ladyfingers to it

IMG_0883Pour 1tsp oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves and add it to the sambar and mix well
