Garlic Rice/Poondu Sadam

IMG_2699This is a quick and easy variety rice recipe. It can be made easily when you are in a hurry. You can prepare this rice easily and pack this as a lunch recipe for kids. It can also be made when you have leftover rice. Garlic has a lot of medicinal properties and this rice can be taken as it had garlic in it. So you can include garlic in your diet in any form you like. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Cooked Rice -1cup
  • Garlic -15cloves
  • Shallots/Small onion/Sambar onion -10
  • Ginger -1/4inch piece
  • Curry leaves –2 springs
  • Tamarind -1tsp
  • Hing/Asafoetida/Perunkayam -1/4tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham parupu -3tsp
  • Channa Da/Kadala parupu -1tblsp
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu- 1tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1/4tsp
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Cook rice or you can use leftover rice too
  • Chop onion and garlic into small pieces

Procedure:

  • Pour 1tsp oil and add urad dal and fry
  • Add channa dal and fry and keep aside
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add onion and garlic and fry
  • Then add ginger, 1spring curry leaves and hing and fry
  • Then add chilli powder and tamarind and allow to cool and grind it to a fine paste along with fried urad dal and channa dal
  • Pour 1tblsp oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves and fry
  • Then add rice and the grinded paste and mix well
  • Garlic Rice is now ready!!!
