Channa Tamarind Curry/Channa Pulikulambu

IMG_2805This is a tasty and simple curry made with channa. It can be taken with rice, dosa and idli. It is simple to make and tastes delicious too. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 30minutes

Ingredients:

  • White Channa/White kondakadalai -1/2cup
  • Small onion/Shallots/Sambar onion -1/2cup
  • Garlic -5
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1/2tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham parupu -1/4tsp
  • Tomato -1
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Sambar powder -2tsp
  • Tamarind Water -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice
  • Pressure cook white channa with water in cooker for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 10minutes

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, curl leaves and onion and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomato and fry till it becomes soft
  • Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, sambar powder and salt and mix well
  • Add tamarind water and water and allow to boil
  • Then add white channa and boil
  • Channa Tamarind Curry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
