Tomato Rasam/Thakkali Rasam

IMG_2005This is a quick and tasty rasam made with tomatoes. It can be taken with rice. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 5minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Tomato -2
  • Garlic -5
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/2tsp
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -1tsp
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1/2tsp
  • Tamarin Water -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Coriander leaves –A handful
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Asafoetida/Hing -1/2tsp
  • Salt –1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Tomato -2
  • Garlic -5

Grind this to a smooth paste without adding water

Preparation:

  • Grind tomato and garlic in a mixer

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves to it
  • Then add the tomato garlic paste and boil
  • Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder and salt and mix well
  • Add tamarind water and boil
  • Add coriander leaves and mix well
  • Toamto Rasam is now ready!!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
