Coconut Rasam/Thengai rasam

IMG_2378This is a quick and tasty rasam made with coconut. This is an Andhra famous rasam and there they take as a side dish with pongal too. It can be taken with rice. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 10minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Coconut gratings -1cup
  • Garlic -5
  • Green chilli -3
  • Coriander leaves –A spring
  • Tomato -3
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -1tsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tsp
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Curry leaves -1spring
  • Garlic -2
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Coconut gratings -1cup
  • Garlic -5
  • Green chilli -3
  • Coriander leaves –A spring

Grind this to smooth paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Grind tomato to fine puree
  • Grind everything given under “For grinding” to a smooth paste

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add grinded tomato and fry
  • Add the grinded coconut paste and water and boil
  • Then add pepper powder, coriander powder and salt and boil
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds. cumin seeds, garlic and curry leaves and fry
  • Add it to rasam and mix well
  • Coconut Rasam is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Pour oil in a pan. Add grinded tomato and fry
