Plantain Podimas/Vazhakai Podimas

IMG_1388This is a tasty and easy dish made with plantain. It can be taken as a side dish for rice. Podimas means crushing it into small bits and then cook. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Plantain /Vazhakai -1
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1/2tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham parupu -1/4tsp
  • Green chilli -1
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/4tsp
  • Coconut gratings -1/4cup
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Grate coconut
  • Pressure cook plantain with water in a cooker for 3whistles in high flame

Procedure:

  • Pressure cook plantain with water in a cooker for 3whistles in high flame
  • Then open the cooker and peel the skin and grate it using a grater
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, green chili and curry leaves in a pan and fry
  • Then add the grated plantain and fry
  • Add turmeric powder, salt and grated coconut and mix well
  • Plantain Podimas is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Pressure cook plantain with water in a cooker for 3whistles in high flame
