Plantain Flower Curry/Vazhai Poo Pulikulambu

IMG_1440This is a tasty and easy curry made with plantain flower. It can be taken as a side dish with rice, idli and dosa. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 25minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Plantain Flower/Vazhakai poo -1cup
  • Small onion/Shallots/Sambar Onion -1/4cup
  • Fenugreek/Venthayam -1/2tsp
  • Coconut -1/4cup
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Cumin powder/Seeraka Powder- 1tsp
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -1/4tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tsp
  • Tamarind Water -1cup (Soak a lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Coconut -1/4cup
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Cumin powder/Seeraka Powder- 1tsp
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -1/4tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tsp

Grind this to a fine paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Take the plantain flowers and wash it
  • Chop small onion into small pieces
  • Soak a lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice
  • Grind coconut, coriander powder, chilli powder, cumin powder and pepper powder to a fine paste by adding water

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a cooker
  • Add fenugreek and small onion and fry
  • Grind coconut, coriander powder, chilli powder, cumin powder and pepper powder to a fine paste by adding water and add this and mix well
  • Add tamarind water and boil
  • Add plantain flower and salt and mix well and close the cooker and pressure cook for 2whistles in high flame and in low flame for 10minutes
  • Now open the cooker and mix it well
  • Plantain Flower Curry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
