Parupu Urundai Kulambu/Dal Dumplings Curry

IMG_0661This is a healthy and tasty curry. It can be taken with rice, idli and dosa. The taste will be very nice and everyone will surely love it. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 20minutes

Cooking Time: 45minutes

Ingredients:

  • Toor Dal/Thuvaram Parupu -1/2cup
  • Channa Dal/Kadalai Parupu -1/2cup
  • Green chilli -2
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -1tsp
  • Small onion/Shallots/Sambar onion -1/4cup+1/2cup
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Garlic -2
  • Fenugreek/Venthayam -1/2tsp
  • Tomato -1
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Tamarind Water -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Coconut gratings -1/4cup
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice
  • Soak toor dal and channa dal together for ½ hour in water
  • Grind coconut with water to a fine paste

Procedure:

  • Soak toor dal and channa dal together for ½ hour in water
  • Drain the water and add it in a mixer along wth green chilli, fennel seeds and required salt and grind it without adding water
  • Then add chopped onion, garlic and curry leaves to it and mix well
  • Form small balls out of it
  • Steam those balls in an idli cooker for 15minutes
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add fenugreek, curry leaves and onion and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomatoes and mix well till it becomes soft
  • Then add chilli powder, turmeric powder and pour tamarind water and boil
  • Add coconut paste and boil in low flame till the curry gets thick
  • Add the steamed balls and boil
  • Boil till the curry gets thick
  • Parupu Urundai Kulambu is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
