Foxtail Millet Upma/Thinai Upma

IMG_1797This is a tasty and healthy upma which you can make for breakfast. Millets are good for health, glutten free and high in fiber and proteins and it can be added in any form to your diet as you like . The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 5minutes

Cooking Time: 15minutes

Ingredients:

  • Foxtail Millet/Thinai Arisi -1/2cup
  • Big Onion -1
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham parupu -1/2tsp
  • Green chilli -1
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Water -3cups
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Dry roast foxtail millet for 3-4minutes

Procedure:

  • Dry roast foxtail millet for 3-4minutes
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, green chilli and curry leaves and fry
  • Then add onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add salt and water and boil well
  • Add the roasted foxtail millet and mix well
  • After the water gets observed cover and cook for 3minutes and after it gets cooked switch off the flame
  • Foxtail Millet Upma is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Dry roast foxtail millet for 3-4minutes

IMG_1796After the water gets observed cover and cook for 3minutes and after it gets cooked switch off the flame. Foxtail Millet Upma is now ready!!!
