Country Chicken Biriyani/Nattu Kozhi Biriyani

IMG_1239This is a tasty and wonderful chicken biriyani made with country chicken. It is made in pressure cooker easily and tastes great for lunch. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 25minutes

Cooking Time:30minutes

Ingredients:

  • Basmati Rice -1 and 1/2cup
  • Country chicken/Nattu Kozhi -1/2kg
  • Big Onion -2
  • Green chilli -2
  • Tomato -2
  • Small onion -10
  • Biriyani leaf -1
  • Cashews -5
  • Ginger garlic paste -1tblsp(For homemade ginger garlic paste click here –>Click)
  • Cardamom/Elakai/Elachi -3
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch piece
  • Cloves/Krambu -1
  • Star Anise -1
  • Fennel Seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -1tsp
  • Curd -1/4cup
  • Mint leaves/Pudhina -1/4cup
  • Coriander leaves -1/4cup
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Coconut Milk -2cups
  • Water -1cup
  • Salt -1 and 1/2tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required
  • Ghee -1tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Small onion -10
  • Biriyani leaf -1
  • Cashews -5
  • Ginger garlic paste -1tblsp
  • Cardamom/Elakai/Elachi -3
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch piece
  • Cloves/Krambu -1
  • Fennel Seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -1tsp
  • Star Anise -1

Grind everything to a smooth paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Chop onion, tomato and green chilli into small pieces
  • Grind small onion, biriyani leaf, cashews, ginger garlic paste, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and fennel seeds to a fine paste by adding water
  • Pressure cook country chicken by adding water and cook for 5whistles in high flame
  • Extract the milk from coconut
  • Wash mint and coriander leaves and keep

Procedure:

  • Pressure cook country chicken by adding water and cook for 5whistles in high flame
  • Pour oil and ghee in a cooker
  • Add green chilli and onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomatoes and fry well
  • Grind small onion, biriyani leaf, cashews, ginger garlic paste, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and fennel seeds to a fine paste by adding water
  • Add this paste and mix well
  • Then add curd and mix well
  • Add coriander leaves and mint leaves and fry well
  • Add chicken pieces and mix well
  • Then add chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well
  • Then add coconut milk and water and boil well
  • Then add rice and mix well and close the lid and cook for 1whistle in high flame and in low flame for 5minutes
  • Country Chicken Biriyani is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Pressure cook country chicken by adding water and cook for 5whistles in high flame
