Anchovies Curry/Nethili Meen Pulikulambu

IMG_1693This is a tasty and yummy fish curry made with anchovies. It can be taken as a side dish with rice, idli and dosa. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 20minutes

Cooking Time: 30minutes

Ingredients:

  • Anchovies/Nethili meen -1/2kg
  • Big Onion -3/4cup
  • Tomato -1+1
  • Garlic -5
  • Fenugreek/Venthayam -1/2tsp
  • Coconut gratings -1/4cup
  • Shallots/Small onion/Sambar onion -1/4cup
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Tamarind Water -1cup (Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1/2tsp
  • Water -1cup
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp+1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

Wash fish well in water

  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice

Procedure:

  • Pour 1tblsp oil in a pan
  • Add fenugreek and garlic and fry
  • Add big onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomatoes and fry till it becomes soft
  • Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, coconut gratings and salt and mix well
  • Allow it to cool and grind it to a smooth paste
  • Pour 1tblsp oil in a pan
  • Add curry leaves and small onion and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomato and fry till it becomes soft
  • Then add tamarind water and water and allow to boil
  • Add the ground paste and boil
  • Then add the washed fish and boil till the curry gets thick
  • Anchovies Curry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
