Spicy Mutton Biriyani

IMG_0603This is a spicy biryani recipe made with mutton. The taste will be really awesome and so fantastic that you will really love it. It will be spicy too as the spices are grinded at first and then added. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 25minutes

Cooking Time: 30minutes

Ingredients:

  • Mutton -1/2kg
  • Basmati Rice -2cups
  • Big onion -2
  • Green chilli -3
  • Ginger garlic paste -1tblsp(For homemade ginger garlic paste click here –> Click)
  • Tomatoes -2
  • Red chilli powder -1tsp
  • Mint leaves -1/4cup
  • Coriander leaves -1/4cup
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -2inch stick
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Cardamom/Elakai/Elachi -4
  • Star Anise -1
  • Biriyani leaf -1
  • Fennel Seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -2tsp
  • Coconut Milk -2cups
  • Water -1cup(Mutton boiled water +ordinary water)
  • Salt -1tsp
  • Oil -3tblsp
  • Ghee -2tblsp (Optional)

For Grinding:

  • Cinnamon/Pattai -2inch stick
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Cardamom/Elakai/Elachi -4
  • Star Anise -1
  • Biriyani leaf -1
  • Fennel Seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -2tsp

Grind this to a fine paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Soak basmati rice for 10 minutes and drain water
  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Wash mint and coriander leaves
  • Pressure cook mutton for 5whistles in high flame and in low flame for 10minutes
  • Extract the milk out of coconut
  • Grind cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, star anise, biriyani leaf and fennel seeds to a smooth paste by adding water

Procedure:

  • Pour oil and ghee in a cooker
  • Add onion and fry
  • Add green chilli and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and mix well
  • Then add tomatoes and fry till it gets soft
  • Grind cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, star anise, biriyani leaf and fennel seeds to a smooth paste by adding water and add this and chilli powder and mix well
  • Then add mint and coriander leaves and mix well
  • Add the cooked mutton pieces and mix well
  • Add coconut milk and add water and salt and boil
  • Then add basmati rice and mix well and pressure cook for 1whistle in high flame and in low flame for 5minutes
  • Spicy Mutton Biriyani is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
