Mochai Kurma/Lima Beans Kurma

IMG_8825This is a tasty dish made with fresh lima beans/mochai. As fresh mochai/lima beans is used there is no need for soaking and we can cook directly. This tastes great as a side dish for chapatti, idli and dosa. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 20minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Mochai/Lima Beans -1/2cup
  • Coconut -3tblsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -2tsp
  • Poppy seeds/Kasa kasa/Khus khus -1tblsp
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch piece
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Cardamom/Elakai/Elachi -2
  • Biriyani leaf -1
  • Ginger -1tsp chopped
  • Green chilli -1
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Big onion -1
  • Tomato -1
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Water -1/2cup
  • Lemon juice -2tsp
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil -3tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Coconut -3tblsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -2tsp
  • Poppy seeds/Kasa kasa/Khus khus -1tblsp

Grind this to a smooth paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Pressure cook mochai/lima beans for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 10minutes
  • Grind coconut, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, poppy seeds to a smooth paste by adding water
  • Chop onion and tomato to fine pieces

Procedure:

  • Pressure cook mochai/lima beans for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 10minutes
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, biriyani leaf, ginger, green chilli, curry leaves, onion and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomato and fry well till it becomes soft
  • Then add turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt and mix well
  • Add boiled mochai and mix well
  • Add water and boil
  • Grind coconut, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, poppy seeds to a smooth paste by adding water and add this and mix well
  • Add lemon juice and switch off the flame and mix well
  • Mochai Kurma is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
