Chicken Nihari

IMG_0421This is a tasty and easy chicken curry made with nihari masala. It can be taken with rice, idli, dosa, chapatti and parotas. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 35minutes

Ingredients:

  • Chicken -1/2kg
  • Big onion -2
  • Ginger garlic paste -1tblsp(For homemade ginger garlic paste click here –>Click
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Turmeric powder/Malli thool -3tsp
  • Wheat flour -1tblsp
  • Water -1cup
  • Coriander leaves –A spring
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil -3tblsp or as required

For Nihari Masala:

  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -2tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -2tsp
  • Cardamom/Elachi/Elakai -4
  • Cloves/Krambu -8
  • Pepper/Milagu -1tsp
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -3inch piece
  • Biriyani leaf -1
  • Ginger -1inch piece

Grind this to a fine paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Grind fennel seeds, cumin seeds. Cardamom. Cloves. Pepper, cinnamon, biriyani leaf and ginger to a fine paste by adding water
  • Mix wheat flour with 1/4cup water without any lumps and keep

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add onion and fry till it becomes golden brown
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and fry well
  • Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt and mix well
  • Grind fennel seeds, cumin seeds. Cardamom. Cloves. Pepper, cinnamon, biriyani leaf and ginger to a fine paste by adding water and add this and mix well
  • Then add chicken pieces and add water and boil
  • Then add wheat flour mixed with water and boil in low flame till the curry gets thick
  • Add chopped coriander leaves and mix well
  • Chicken Nihari is now ready!!!!
