Chettinadu Mutton Gravy/Chettinadu Kari Kulambu

IMG_9922This is a tasty curry which is made easily. It can be taken with rice, idli, dosa, chapatti, naan, poori and parotas. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 20minutes

Cooking Time: 35minutes

Ingredients:

  • Mutton -1/2kg
  • Small onion -1cup
  • Tomato -1
  • Ginger garlic paste -1tblsp(For homemade ginger garlic paste click here –> Click)
  • Green chilli -2
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Water -1/2cup
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Coconut -1/4cup
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -2tsp
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch stick
  • Pepper/Milagu -1tblsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Cardamom/Elachi/Elakai -3
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Star Anise -1
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander leaves –A spring
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil -3tblsp or as required

For Grinding1:

  • Coconut -1/4cup
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -2tsp

Grind this top a fine paste by adding water

For Grinding 2:

  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch stick
  • Pepper/Milagu -1tblsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Cardamom/Elachi/Elakai -3
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Star Anise -1
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tblsp

Grind this top a fine paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Wash mutton well in water
  • Grind cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, pepper, cumin seeds, star anise, chilli powder and coriander powder to a fine paste by adding water
  • Grind coconut and fennel seeds to a fine paste by adding water

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a cooker
  • Add small onion and fry
  • Add green chilli and curry leaves and fry well till onion color changes to golden brown
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and mix well
  • Then add tomato and fry well till it becomes soft
  • Grind cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, pepper, cumin seeds, star anise, chilli powder and coriander powder to a fine paste by adding water and add this and mix well
  • Then add mutton pieces and water and cook for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 15minutes
  • Then open the cooker and empty the contents in a pan and add coconut and fennel seeds paste and boil well and add coriander leaves and mix well
  • Chettinadu Mutton Gravy is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
