Cabbage Curry/Muttai kos kulambu

IMG_1383This is a healthy curry recipe made with cabbage. It can be taken with rice, idli and dosa. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 35minutes

Ingredients:

  • Cabbage/Muttai kos -1/2cup
  • Tomato -2
  • Big onion -2
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Poppy seeds/Kasa kasa/Khus khus -1/2tsp
  • Fennel powder/Sombu powder/Perunjeeraka powder -1tsp
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -1/2tsp
  • Garlic -3
  • Green chilli -2
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp +1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion, tomato, garlic and green chilli into small pieces
  • Grate cabbage using a grater

Procedure:

  • Pour 1tblsp oil in a pan
  • Add onion (keep 1/4cup aside) and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add tomatoes (keep 2tblsp aside) and fry till it becomes soft
  • Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, poppy seeds, pepper powder, fennel powder and mix well
  • Add garlic and fry well and switch off the flame and allow to cool and grind it into a smooth paste
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add green chilli, curry leaves and 1/4cup onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add 2tblsp tomato and fry
  • Add cabbage and fry well
  • Add turmeric powder and salt and mix well
  • Add the grinded masala and 1cup water and boil
  • Cabbage Curry is now ready!!!
