Ridge Gourd Chutney/Peerkankai Chutney

IMG_9410This is a tasty chutney which goes well as a side dish for idli and dosa. The preparation is very easy and tastes very nice. Ridge gourd has a lot of health benefits. It is rich in dietary fiber and enriched with all the vital elements that include Vitamin-C, Zinc, Iron, Riboflavin, Magnesium and Thiamin. So ridge gourd can be made as chutney or fry or in any form you like and it can be added to our diet.

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 20minuts

Ingredients:

  • Ridge gourd -1
  • Big Onion -2
  • Green Chilli -2
  • Hing/Asafoetida/Perunkayam -1tsp
  • Tamarind –A small 1inch piece
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Peel the skin from ridge gourd and chop into small pieces

Procedure:

  • Peel the skin from ridge gourd and chop into small pieces
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add onion, green chilli and hing and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add ridge gourd and fry well till it gets cooked
  • After it cools down grind it in a mixer with salt and tamarind
  • Ridge gourd chutney is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
