Ponanganni Keerai Fry/Spinach With Dal

IMG_9741This is healthy spinach recipe which is cooked with dal. Spinach is very healthy to our body and we can add it in any form in our diet. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 25minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Spinach/Keerai -1bunch (I used ponangaani keerai)
  • Moong Dal/Pasi parupu -1/4cup
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Urad dal/Ulutham parupu -1/2tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Green chilli -1
  • Big onion -1
  • Coconut -1/4cup
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -1tsp
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Coconut -1/4cup
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -1tsp

Grind this coarsely without adding water

Preparation:

  • Wash and chop spinach into small pieces
  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Grind coconut and fennel seeds coarsely without adding water
  • Pressure cook moong dal with turmeric powder and salt by adding water and cook for 3whistles in high flame

Procedure:

  • Pressure cook moong dal with turmeric powder and salt by adding water and cook for 3whistles in high flame
  • Wash and chop spinach into small pieces
  • Add this to the cooked moong dal and fry well till it shrinks and keep
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, green chilli and onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add spinach and mix well
  • Grind coconut and fennel seeds coarsely without adding water and add this and mix well
  • Ponanganni keerai Fry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Pressure cook moong dal with turmeric powder and salt by adding water and cook for 3whistles in high flame
