Onion Rice/Venkaya Sadam

IMG_8530This is an easy and simple variety rice which can be prepared when you are in a hurry. The taste will be very nice with a less preparation time. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 10minutes

Cooking Time: 20minutes

Ingredients:

  • Rice -1cup
  • Big Onion -2
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch piece
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Cardamom/Elachi/Elakai -3
  • Biriyani leaf -1
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tsp
  • Cumin powder/Seeraka thool -1tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Water -2cups
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required
  • Lemon juice -2tsp

Preparation:

  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Extract the juice from lemon

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a cooker
  • Add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, biriyani leaf, onion and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well
  • Then add rice and mix well with the masala
  • Then add water and boil
  • Once it starts to boil, close the cooker and pressure cook for 2histles in high flame and in low flame for five minutes
  • Then open the cooker and add lemon juice and mix well
  • Onion Rice is now ready!!!
