Tamarind Chicken Curry

IMG_8915This is a tasty and tangy cicken curry which goes well as a side dish for rice, idli, dosa, chpathi, parathas, naan and fried rice. The taste will be very nice and spicy too. It involves the addition of tamarind for the tanginess and tastes very nice. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 20minutes

Cooking Time: 45minutes

Ingredients:

  • Chicken -1/2kg
  • Big Onion -3
  • Tomatoes -2
  • Ginger –A small 1inch piece
  • Garlic -5
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch piece
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tblsp
  • Cumin powder/Seeraka thool -2tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tblsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -1tsp
  • Tamarind –A small lemon size
  • Water -1cup
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil – 3tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Ginger –A small 1inch piece
  • Garlic -5
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch piece
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tblsp
  • Cumin powder/Seeraka thool -2tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tblsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Pepper powder/Milagu thool -1tsp
  • Tamarind –A small lemon size

Grind this to a smooth paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Wash chicken pieces
  • Chop onion and tomato into small pieces
  • Grind everything given under “For Grinding” to a fine paste by adding water

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add onion and fry well till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Grind ginger, garlic, cinnamon, cloves, coriander powder, cumin powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder and tamarind to a fine paste by adding water
  • Add this paste and mix well
  • Then add tomatoes and mix well till it becomes soft
  • Then add chicken and mix well
  • Add water and boil till chicken gets cooked
  • Add coriander leaves and mix well
  • Tamarind Chicken Curry is now ready!!!
