Mushroom Biriyani/Kalan Biriyani

IMG_9175This is a tasty and spicy biriyani made with mushrooms. There will be hardly anyone who does not love Biryani and this one is no exception. Mushrooms, though classified as vegetables in the food world, are not technically plants. They belong to the fungi kingdom and although they are not vegetables, mushrooms provide several important nutrients. So we can take mushrooms as a fry or curry or as biriyani. The recipe of mushroom biriyani is as follows

Preparation Time: 25minutes

Cooking Time: 35minutes

Ingredients:

  • Mushrooms -5-8
  • Basmathi Rice -1cup
  • Big Onion -1
  • Tomato -2
  • Coriander leaves/Cilantro/Malli leaves -1/4cup
  • Mint leaves/Pudhina -1/4cup
  • Green chilli -2
  • Fennel seeds/Perunjeerakam/Sombu -2tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste -1tblsp(For homemade ginger garlic paste click here –> Click)
  • Cinnamon/Pattai -1inch piece
  • Cloves/Krambu -2
  • Cardamam/Elakai/Elachi -3
  • Bay leaf/Biriyani leaf -1
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tsp
  • Curd -2tblsp
  • Water –1 and 1/2 cup
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil -3tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Tomato -2
  • Coriander leaves/Cilantro/Malli leaves -1/4cup
  • Mint leaves/Pudhina -1/4cup
  • Green chilli -2
  • Fennel seeds/Perunjeerakam/Sombu -2tsp

Grind this to a smooth paste by adding water

Preparation:

  • Wash and chop mushrooms ibnto small pieces
  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Grind tomatoes, coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chilli and fennel seeds to a fine paste by adding water
  • Wash basmathi rice and soak for 10minutes

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a cooker
  • Add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, biriyani leaf, onion and fry till onions become golden brown in color
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and mix well
  • Grind tomatoes, coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chilli and fennel seeds to a fine paste by adding water and add this and mix well
  • Then add mushrooms, chilli powder and salt and mix well
  • Then add curd and mix well
  • Then add the required water and boil
  • Then add rice and close the cooker and keep for 1whistle in high flame and in low flame for 3minutes
  • Mushroom Biriyani is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:

Pour oil in a cooker. Add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, biriyani leaf, onion and fry till onions become golden brown in color

IMG_9159Then add rice and close the cooker and keep for 1whistle in high flame and in low flame for 3minutes
