Mango Ginger Thokku/Manga inji thokku

IMG_8888This is an easy thokku which you can make at home. This can be taken as a side dish with any rice and it tastes as a yummy side dish for curd rice. The spicy taste with nice flavor is loved by everyone. You can also have it as a side dish for idli or dosa. This mango ginger has a lot of health benefits. It is used to cure many diseases. So it can be taken in any form as you wish

Preparation Time: 20minutes

Cooking Time: 40minutes

Ingredients:

  • Mango Ginger/Manga inji -1cup
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Tamarind water -1cup (Soak small lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice)
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tsp or as required
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Sugar -1/2tsp
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Remove the skin from mango ginger and grate it using a grater
  • Extract the juice out of tamarind

Procedure:

  • Grate mango ginger using a grater
  • Pour oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and after they splutter add grated mango ginger and fry
  • Then add tamarind water and boil till the raw smell goes away
  • Then add chilli powder, salt and fry in low flame for fifteen minutes
  • Then add sugar and keep in low flame for 20minutes and switch off the flame and allow to cool. Then add a tsp of oil and store in a bottle and keep in refrigerator and you can use it up to two weeks
