Elephant Yam Fry/Senai Kilangu Varuval

IMG_8532This is a fry made with elephant yam and tastes best as a side dish for rice. This will be very tasty and we can make a variety of dishes using elephant yam. Elephant Yam has a lot of health benefits. Elephant Yams contain a large amount of protein making them great as a staple food. Elephant Yams also contain large amounts of carbs that are important for vital energy. Elephant Yams lower bad cholesterol or LDL cholesterol and thus help to prevent cardiovascular disease, strokes, and cancer.

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Elephant Yam -2cups chopped
  • Fennel seeds/Sombu/Perunjeerakam -2tblsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tsp or as required
  • Pepper poser/Milagu thool -2tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Salt -1tsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Remove the skin and chop elephant yam into small pieces

Procedure:

  • Remove the skin and chop elephant yam into small pieces
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • After it gets heated add fennel seeds
  • After it crackles, add chopped elephant yam and fry till it gets roasted
  • Then add chilli powde, pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well
  • Elephant Yma fry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
