Easy Tomato Kulambu/Easy thakkali kulambu

IMG_8034This tomato kulambu can be had with rice or as a side dish for idli, dosa, appam and idiyappam. This tangy kulambu can be made easily in few minutes. There are many ways to prepare tomato kulambu but this is a simple version. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 30minutes

Ingredients:

  • Tomatoes -3
  • Big onion -2
  • Curry leaf –A spring
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Khus khus/Kasa kasa -2tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Coriander seeds/Malli seeds -3tsp
  • Garlic-5
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Water -1cup or as required
  • Salt -1tblsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

Grinding 1:

  • Khus khus/Kasa kasa -2tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Coriander seeds/Malli seeds -3tsp
  • Garlic-5
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp

Grind this to a fine paste by adding water

Grinding 2:

  • Tomatoes -3

Grind this without adding water

Preparation:

  • Grind everything given for Grinding 1 and Grinding 2
  • Chop onion into small pieces

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add curry leaves and onion and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add turmeric powder and salt and mix well
  • Grind khus khus, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, garlic and chilli powder to a fine paste by adding water and add this and fry well till the raw smell of the masala goes away
  • Then add the grinded tomato and fry well till the raw smell goes off
  • Then add water and allow to boil and when it reaches kulambu consistency switch off the flame
  • Easy tomato kulambu is now ready!!!
