Channa masala/Kondakadalai masala

IMG_8545This is a tasty and excellent dish which goes well as a side dish for poori, chapathi, naan and parota. Channa has a lot of health benefits and it can be had in any form as you wish. This spicy curry can be prepared easily and tastes very nice. It is a mouthwatering dish with lot of calories packed in it. The recipe is as follows

Preparation Time: 30minutes

Cooking Time: 30minutes

Ingredients:

  • Channa/Kondakadalai -1cup boiled
  • Big onion -2
  • Tomatoes- 2
  • Hing/ Asafoetida/Perunkayam -1tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -11/2tsp
  • Gram flour/Kadalai maavu -1tblsp
  • Green Chilli -2
  • Ginger garlic paste -2tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -2tsp or as required
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander leaves/Cilantro/Malli leaves -2spring
  • Lemon juice -1tsp or as required
  • Salt -1tblsp or as required
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Chop onion and green chilli into small pieces
  • Grind tomatoes to a fine puree
  • Boil channa in a pressure cooker

Procedure:

  • Take channa in a cooker and ad water and pressure cook for 3whistles in high flame and in low flame for 15minutes
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • Add cumin seeds, hing and gram flour and fry
  • Then add onion and green chilli and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and fry
  • Then add tomato puree and mix well till the raw smell goes away
  • Then add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and salt and mix well
  • Then add channa and mix well
  • Then add coriander leaves and lemon juice and mix well
  • Channa masala is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
