Cabbage Fry/Muttaikos poriyal

IMG_7978This is an easy fry which goes well as a side dish for rice. This is a tasty dish which can be prepared very quickly when you are in a hurry. The chopping of cabbage only takes a little time. Cabbage has a lot of health benefits too. Eating a half-cup of cooked cabbage would provide 47% of your vitamin C needs for the day. Cabbage contains antioxidant responsible for detoxifying your liver. Cabbage has excellent skin healing properties. So it can be eaten raw or as a fry or in any form.

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Cabbage -1/2
  • Big onion -2
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1/2tsp
  • Curry leaves –A spring
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Coconut – 1/4cup
  • Green chilli -2
  • Fennel seed Powder/Sombu powder/Perunjeeraka powder -2tsp
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Coconut – 1/4cup
  • Green chilli -2
  • Fennel seed Powder/Sombu powder/Perunjeeraka powder -2tsp

Grind this coarsely without adding water

Preparation:

  • Wash and Chop cabbage into fine pieces
  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Grind coconut, green chilli, fennel powder coarsely without adding water

Procedure:

  • Pour oil in a pan
  • After oil gets heated add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and after it splutters add onion and curry leaves and fry till onion becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add cabbage and cover with a lid and cook till it gets cooked
  • Then add salt and coriander powder and mix well and fry
  • Grind coconut, green chilli, fennel powder coarsely without adding water and add this and mix well
  • Cabbage fry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
