Potato Brown Channa Masala/Urulaikilangu kondakadalai Masala/Potato Brown Chickpeas Masala

IMG_7333This is a tasty curry which goes well as a side dish for chapathi, naan and parathas. This curry is kept in pressure cooker and so you need not cook channa and potato and keep and as a result it can be done very quickly. If you have soaked channa in hand then it’s very simple to make. This is very healthy as it has potato and channa in it. The iron, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium and zinc in potatoes all contribute to the building and maintaining of bone structure and strength. Chickpeas are an excellent dietary source of iron that helps in fulfilling your body’s requirement of this mineral and prevent anemia.

Preparation Time: 20minutes

Cooking Time: 30minutes

Soaking Time: 8-10hours

Ingredients:

  • Big Onion -2
  • Cumin seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Ginger Garlic Paste -2tsp
  • Tomato -2
  • Red chilli powder/Milagai thool -1tblsp
  • Coriander powder/Malli thool -2tsp
  • Turmeric powder/Manjal thool -1tsp
  • Potato -2
  • Brown Chickpeas/Brown Channa/Brown Kondakadalai -1cup
  • Water -1cup or as required
  • Salt -1tblsp or as required
  • Coriander leaves/Cilantro/Malli leaves -1spring
  • Oil -2tblsp or as required

Preparation:

  • Soak channa overnight or for 8-10hours in water
  • Chop onion, tomato and potato into small pieces
  • Grind ginger and garlic into a fine paste or you can use ready made ginger garlic paste

Procedure:

  • Take a pressure cooker and pour oil
  • After oil gets heated add cumin seeds and after it crackles, add onion and fry till it becomes golden brown in color
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and mix well
  • Then add tomatoes and fry till it becomes soft and the raw smell goes away
  • Then add red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well
  • Then drain the water from channa and add it and mix well
  • Then add potato and mix well
  • Now add water and close the cooker and cook for 3whistle in high flame and in low flame for 10minutes and switch of the flame
  • After the pressure goes by itself, open the cooker and add coriander leaves and mix well
  • Potato Brown Channa Masala is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
