Avarakkai Fry/Broad Beans Fry

IMG_8324This avarakkai fry or broad beans fry is a fry which goes well as a side dish for rice. This is an easy and healthy recipe which can be easily prepared when we are in a hurry and tastes good. Avarakkai has a lot of health benefits too. Broad Beans/Avarakkai are rich sources of vitamin A and C. Vitamin A is required for good vision, skin, growth and bone development. Broad Beans are a very good source of phosphorus in the body, which is required for the formation of healthy bones and teeth. It also helps the body to utilize vitamins.

Preparation Time: 15minutes

Cooking Time: 25minutes

Ingredients:

  • Avarakkai/Broad beans -15
  • Big Onion -1
  • Mustard seeds/Kadugu -1tsp
  • Urad Dal/Ulutham Parupu -1/2tsp
  • Cumin Seeds/Seerakam -1tsp
  • Curry leaves/Karivepillai –A spring
  • Coconut -1/4cup
  • Sombu/Fennel seeds/Perunjeerakam -1tblsp
  • Green Chilli -3
  • Salt -2tsp or as required
  • Oil -1tblsp or as required

For Grinding:

  • Coconut -1/4cup
  • Sombu/Fennel seeds/Perunjeerakam -1tblsp
  • Green Chilli -3

Grind this coarsely without adding water

Preparation:

  • Wash and chop Avarakkai into small pieces
  • Chop onion into small pieces
  • Grind coconut, fennel seeds. Green chilli coarsely without adding water

Procedure:

  • Wash and chop Avarakkai into small pieces
  • Pour oil in a pan
  • After oil gets heated, add mustard seeds and after they crackle add urad dal, seerakam, curry leaves, onion and fry
  • Then add avarakkai and cover and cook till it gets cooked
  • Grind coconut, fennel seeds. Green chilli coarsely without adding water and add this and mix well
  • Avarakkai Fry is now ready!!!

Step by Step Procedure:
